EDM's capacitance sensors are used for high and low level detection in bins, silos, tanks, hoppers, chutes and other vessels used for material storage or process manufacturing. They operate by detecting the presence or absence of material in contact with
the probe by sensing minute changes (as low as 0.5 pF) in capacitance caused by the difference in the dielectric constant of the material versus the air. Class II hazardous location ratings and a wide assortment of probes
and extensions make these capacitance probes appropriate for a variety of solid, liquid and slurry materials.
EDM PROCAP I and II capacitance probes provide interference-free operation – working far below the RF level of 9 KHz at just 6 KHz. – and will not interfere with two-way radios or other equipment operating in the radio
spectrum. They feature simple "quick set" calibration and fail-safe operation including a visual LED to indicate the sensor status. Accurate level detection is assured even in dusty, sticky or clinging materials by the
PRO-Shield feature which compensates for material build up on the sensing probe. It also provides fail-safe protection in the event of a power failure as well as an adjustable time delay to help prevent false readings.
The PROCAP I-FL and II-FL offer "no probe intrusion" and are designed for space constrained areas or applications where material flow or bridging may damage a standard probe. It can be mounted on a bin wall, conveyor housing or a chute. The face of the
bottom of the FL serves as the capacitance sensor which features Pro-Shield compensation for material build up and an adjustable time delay of up to 30 seconds.
To ensure accurate readings. Plus, it offers unsurpassed sensitivity of 0.5 pF, to make it appropriate for use with a wide variety of powders, solids, liquids and slurries. The FL offers the same benefits as EDM's
standard probe models including simple "Quick- Set" simple calibration and fail-safe operation in the event of a power outage. It operates below RF range which prevents interfere with other plant equipment or two-way radios
used in the facility. The screw-cap enclosure offers easy access to components, which is especially handy in space-constrained installations, while a visual LED on the top of the enclosure indicates sensor status such as
uncovered, covered or power failure.
Pro Auto-Cal offers simple and automatic calibration and external testing without having to remove the cover of the unit. Calibration takes just seconds and is performed with the use of a special magnet. This unit also allows for the simulation of either
a covered or uncovered condition without accessing the probe assembly or the electronics and unsurpassed sensitivity of 0.5 pF for enhanced accuracy. A visual LED on the top of the housing indicates sensor status such as
uncovered, covered or power failure.
Operating below the RF range, Pro Auto-Cal will not interfere with two-way radios or other plant equipment operating within radio frequency. It offers fail-safe performance – alerting users to power failures – and
a Pro-Shield feature which compensates for material build-up to protect again false readings. Other benefits include temperature-stable calibration and an adjustable time delay of up to 10 seconds to allow for settling
of material. Pro Auto-Cal offers optional sensing probes including Delrin or Teflon-sleeved, bare, food grade, or flush mount, plus a variety of solid and flexible extensions making it suitable for many applications.
The Pro Remote capacitance sensor features remote electronics located in a housing that is separated from the probe making it suitable for high temperature, high vibration, or hazardous environments. It is CSA Class II listed and allows for the electronics
to be installed up to 75 feet from the sensing probe and the hostile conditions, depending on the required sensitivity. It offers simple, "Quick-Set" calibration and adjustable sensitivity to less than one picofarad, making
it highly reliable in a variety of powders, solids, liquids and slurries.
It operates below the RF range at just 6 KHz – unlike competitive products that operate at 9 KHz or greater – so there is no interference to compete with two-way radios or other plant equipment. An LED on the electronics
housing remotely indicates there is material in contact with probe. The PRO-Shield feature protects against false readings due to coating or material buildup on the probe, while an adjustable time delay of .25 to 10 seconds
can be set to ensure the most accurate readings.
The bendable capacitance probe is designed to fit in tight spaces or in vessels where obstructions prevent the installation of a straight probe. This probe can be bent to avoid obstructions in a vessel while still allowing adequate probe surface area
to confirm the presence or absence of material. Mounted on the side of the bin, the bendable probe can be used in a wide range of solid materials or slurries. One common application for the bendable probe is for high and
low level detection in smaller mixers or containers used in food processing plants.
Like all EDM capacitance probes, the bendable probe offers interference-free, fail-safe operation &"Quick-Set" calibration. EDM capacitance probes provide interference-free operation – working far below the RF level
of 9 KHz at just 6 KHz – and will not interfere with two-way radios or other equipment operating in the radio spectrum. Standard capacitance probe features include a triple-thread, screw-off cover that allows easy access
to internal components and an FDA-recognized powder coat finish. This housing also has dual conduit entries to simplify wiring and installation. The dual time delay feature allows the user to set flexible time delays up
to 30 seconds for covered and uncovered conditions.
The Compact Pro is a compact capacitance probe for reliable level measurement and plugged chute detection for liquid, powder, granular, and pelleted materials. This probe is designed for tight spaces where proximity switches will not work and is appropriate
for use in tanks, bins, silos, chutes, conveyors, pipes and load out hoppers. Operation is independent of bin wall and it can be used with either metal or non-metallic vessels. It features four levels of static discharge
protection, which is important for pneumatically conveyed materials.
Compact Pro is simple to set up and requires virtually no maintenance. Its compact design makes it easy to install and a simple "one-time" calibration procedure with sensitivity up to less than one Picofared ensures
fast set up. It requires no routine preventive maintenance and its operation unaffected by temperature changes, eliminating the need for recalibration. In addition, its special Pro Shield technology ignores material buildup
that can cause proximity switches to fail. A visual LED on the housing indicates sensor status at-a-glance, showing the presence or absence of material.
The high temperature PRO Remote capacitance probe features a heavy duty design for use in applications where the temperature exceeds 500ºF (260ºC). It is used to detect the level of material in a bin, tank or silo or the presence of material in a chute or spout. The probe and the electronics are separated by a cable to distance the electronics from the heat source.
To withstand high temperatures, the stainless steel probe has ceramic inserts that protects the probe from excessive heat. The remote electronics are installed up to 20 feet away from the probe and the heat source. This heavy duty capacitance probe is suited for environments up to 1000ºF and can be used in applications such as coal-fired power plants or to measure clinker at cement plants.
